Hair Analysis for Heavy Metals
The use of hair analysis for discovering
excessive heavy metals accumulation has become a popular tool for
health professionals and individuals alike that are looking for
alternative treatment options and further insight into a wide range of
health conditions. Conditions that often have direct links to, or at the very least
are aggravated by the presence of heavy metals.
After all, having an effective health plan for combating a specific
health condition (disease) cannot be created until the source of what
caused the issue in the first place has been discovered.
Using Hair analysis for heavy metals is one of the preferred
methods being used by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), as
stated in their 1980 report "human hair can be used effectively for the
biological monitoring of the highest priority toxic metals". The report
goes on to list poisonous toxins like "lead, cadmium, mercury and
arsenic". Further more, the report concludes, "For toxic exposure...
hair appears to be superior to blood and urine (testing)."
How are people using hair analysis for heavy metals?
People
who decide to use hair analysis as a
guide for achieving optimum levels of health and vitality often come
with specific health objectives for which they would like to apply the
information that is discovered.
Some have very specific health conditions that often have direct links
with heavy metal toxicity. For example, degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease,
Autism, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis, Fibromylagia have all been
found to either be caused by heavy metal toxicity or at the very least
are aggravated by these toxic substances.
Even parents come to hair analysis testing for heavy metals in their
search for alternative treatments for Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD
or Hyperactivity.
What are your reasons for getting a hair analysis?
Perhaps you, like many others are just looking for insightful
information to help you feel better. Perhaps you have come across
information about heavy metals and toxicity, and found that the symptoms
match what you have been feeling. Do any of these sound familiar?
| Fatigue |
Headaches |
Depression |
| Apathy |
Irritability |
Poor
Concentration |
| Hypertension |
Adrenal
Fatigue |
Anxiety |
| Blood
Imbalances |
Poor
Concentration |
... and more |
Having 2, 3 or even more of the above symptoms could
warrant further investigation into heavy metal toxicity.
Understanding Heavy Metals vs. Essential Minerals
Everyone is exposed to heavy metals to some degree. The retention of
these toxins however depends on the relationships between other elements
that are also present.
For instance, the over accumulation of Mercury will have more of an
impact when sufficient amounts of Zinc are not available, as Zinc has an
antagonistic effect on Mercury.
The reason these toxins are called heavy metals, is because their high atomic weight actually
DISPLACES many of the lighter, essential elements.
Important metabolic processes and even vital organs are then compromised, which in turn
makes them function less efficiently as they do not
have the essential nutrients for healthy functioning. Heavy metals such as
Lead, Mercury, Cadmium and Arsenic are very common as they are often
found with increasing regularity in our modern environments.
Heavy metals and other toxic substances tend to accumulate in your
system where it then interferes with the way nutrients are used. This disturbs
vital bodily processes and creates various degrees of disease in
your body.
For example, Cadmium and Lead have been shown to be antagonistic
towards essential nutrients such as calcium. Cadmium and Lead will often lodge themselves within bone tissues, which in turn
drives out
calcium from your bones.
This then weakens bone structure, because both Cadmium and Lead have no real
nutritional value in
the processes involved for bone health like Calcium
does.
After many years, this toxic burden in your system develops into mineral
imbalances that can develop into Osteoporosis, Arthritis and joint
related degenerative diseases.
Here is a list of the main Heavy Metals that you can test for:
| Mercury |
Lead |
Arsenic |
Cadmium |
| Beryllium |
Aluminum |
Uranium |
Antimony |
We also test for many essential minerals. Essential
minerals are important for many biological processes which are vital for
LIFE.
HOWEVER, in high enough quantities many essential elements can also
become toxic. For instance, copper and iron are both considered
essential minerals but in high enough quantity in your body, they can
both have devastating effects.
Here is a list of the main Essential Elements that you can test for:
| Calcium |
Magnesium |
Sodium |
Potassium |
Copper |
| Zinc |
Phosphorus |
Iron |
Manganese |
Chromium |
| Selenium |
Boron |
Cobalt |
Molybdeum |
Sulfur |
We also test for a number of additional minerals, so
that you and/or your health professional can have a broader view of what
your current mineral status is.
Here is a list of the main Additional Elements
that you can test for:
| Barium |
Nickel |
Tin |
Platinum |
Lithium |
| Strontium |
Germanium |
Bismuth |
Rubidium |
Thallium |
| Vanadium |
Titanium |
Tungsten |
Zirconium |

How can you use hair analysis to help detoxify
heavy metals?
The purpose of hair mineral analysis is to
re-establish a healthy balance of body chemistry by applying the
individually designed dietary and supplement suggestions.
Properly following these protocols over a period of 3 - 4 months will
often help remove heavy metals and support your body to more effectively
utilize the nutrients that are in the foods you eat, which results in
increased energy and optimal health and vitality.
Furthermore, if you have a specific health condition you wish to
address, or your hair analysis results show very high accumulation of
heavy metal toxicity, then our nutritional consultant can work with you
to design a detoxification protocol that is specific to your health
objectives.
